The rating is 450 W. It is made for dimmable lamps only: filament (incandescent) and halogen bulbs, or LED lamps marked "dimmable". A dimmer is not a fan regulator — never connect it to a ceiling fan, exhaust fan, pump or other motor, or to tube lights, CFLs and ordinary LED bulbs.

How to install
- Switch off the supply at the MCB and add up the lamp wattage — it must stay within 450 W.
- Connect the two leads in series in the phase wire between the switch and the lamp; the neutral goes straight to the lamp.
- Clip the dimmer into the plate frame and fit the plate.
- Switch on, turn the knob from low to high and check that the lamps dim smoothly.
Electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician with the supply switched off. Use it only on dimmable lamps within 450 W — never on fans or motors.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I use this dimmer for a ceiling fan?
- No. A dimmer is made for lamps. Fans and other motors need a fan regulator — see our 4 step and 5 step fan regulators.
- Will it work with LED bulbs?
- Only with LED lamps marked "dimmable". Ordinary LED bulbs, CFLs and tube lights may flicker, buzz or fail on a dimmer.
- What does 450 W mean on a dimmer?
- It is the most lamp load the dimmer should control. Add up the wattage of every lamp on it — for example, seven 60 W filament bulbs make 420 W, which is within the rating.
- What is the difference between a dimmer and a fan regulator?
- A dimmer varies the brightness of lamps; a fan regulator sets the speed of a fan motor. They are built differently and must not be swapped.
- Mini (1 module) or medium (2 module) dimmer — which should I buy?
- Both are rated 450 W. The mini saves space on the plate; the medium fills a 2 module slot and has a larger knob.
- Where does it fit?
- In one module of a modular plate on a concealed or surface box. Clip designs differ between switch ranges, so check one module first if you are mixing makes.
