A universal socket ends the 6A-or-16A question: it takes the large 16A three-pin plug of a geyser, AC, room heater or oven, and the ordinary 6A three-pin plug of a TV, computer or mixer-grinder. This modular version is 2 modules wide and ISI-marked to IS 1293.
Because a 16A appliance may be plugged in, the point must be wired and protected for 16A — typically 2.5 sq mm copper wire and a 16A MCB — and controlled by a switch rated 16A or more, such as our modular 20A one-way switch.

How to install
- Switch off the circuit at the MCB and check that it is dead.
- Use a circuit wired for 16A — typically 2.5 sq mm copper protected by a 16A MCB.
- Connect line to L, neutral to N and the earth wire to the earth terminal, and tighten firmly.
- Clip the socket into a free 2 module opening with a 16A-or-higher switch beside it, then fit the cover plate.
Electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician with the supply switched off. Never feed a 16A socket from a light circuit wired in thinner cable.
