A ceiling rose is the round fitting at a ceiling light point. The fixed wiring from the switch comes in through its base, and a flexible cord goes out through the hole in the cover to a pendant holder or hanging light, so the cord can be changed without touching the wiring in the ceiling.

How to install
- Switch off the circuit at the MCB and check that the point is dead.
- Bring the fixed phase (from the switch) and neutral wires in through the base and screw the base to the ceiling, round sheet or junction box.
- Connect the fixed wires to one side of the brass connectors and the flexible cord to the other side — phase to phase, neutral to neutral.
- Knot the cord inside the cover so its weight does not hang on the screws, then fit the cover.
Electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician with the supply switched off. A ceiling rose is not a support — fans and heavy fittings need their own hook or bracket.
