Nano 4 step fan regulator for ceiling fans — non-modular, with a knob marked I to IV and a slim plate that screws onto traditional switchboards.
- Four fan speeds, marked I to IV on the knob.
- Step-type control: each position gives a fixed, repeatable speed.
- Slim Nano plate with screw holes at the top and bottom, for non-modular boards.
- Sized for Nano range boards, such as our Nano gang boxes.
- Made for ceiling fans — not for dimming lights.
- Two flying leads: it is wired in series with the fan.
- Listed as an electronic 4 step fan regulator in the non-modular Nano range.
This Nano regulator is the non-modular way to control a ceiling fan: its slim plate screws onto a traditional switchboard or a Nano gang box, and the knob gives four fixed speeds, marked I to IV.
Step regulators like this typically use capacitors rather than a resistance coil, so they run cooler and waste far less power at low speeds than old resistance-type regulators.
For modular switchboards, see our 1 module 4 step and 2 module 5 step regulators. For lights, use a dimmer — a fan regulator will not dim lamps properly.
Where to use it
- Homes wired with traditional non-modular switchboards.
- Adding fan control to a Nano gang box.
- Bedrooms, halls, shops and offices with ceiling fans.
How to install
- Switch off the supply at the MCB.
- Connect the two leads in series in the phase wire between the fan switch and the fan; the neutral goes straight to the fan.
- Push the body through the board opening and screw the plate on through its top and bottom holes.
- Switch on and try every step from I to IV.
Electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician with the supply switched off. Use one regulator per fan, and never use it for lights.
Frequently asked questions
- What do I to IV on the knob mean?
- They mark the four speed steps. On step regulators the lowest number is usually the slowest speed.
- Nano (non-modular) or modular regulator — which do I need?
- Match your switchboard. The Nano regulator screws onto traditional non-modular boards and Nano gang boxes; modular regulators clip into modular plates.
- Can I use a fan regulator to dim lights?
- No. It is built for fan motors and will not dim lamps properly. For lights, use a dimmer such as our Nano dimmer.
- Will it work with a BLDC fan?
- Most BLDC (energy-saving) fans are controlled by their own remote and should be wired through a plain switch, not a regulator. Follow the fan maker's instructions.
- Does a step regulator save electricity?
- Compared with old resistance regulators, yes. Step regulators typically use capacitors, so at low speed the fan draws less power and very little is wasted as heat.
