Modular fuse unit, 10A/16A, 1 module — fits a modular switch plate like a switch and fuses a single point, with a front fuse carrier and screw terminals.
- 1 module wide — clips into a modular switch plate and box like a switch.
- Listed as a 10A/16A fuse unit for 240 V single-phase circuits.
- Front fuse carrier marked with the fuse symbol, easy to spot on the board.
- Two screw terminals at the back for the incoming and outgoing phase wires.
- The fuse blows on overload or short circuit and cuts the supply to that point.
- White finish, in the same modular size as switches, sockets and regulators.
- An economical way to fuse one point — for protection that resets, see our tiny trip MCBs.
A modular fuse unit puts a fuse on the switchboard itself. It is one module wide, so it clips into the modular plate next to your switches and sockets and protects the point wired through it: when the current is too high, the fuse blows and cuts the supply until it is replaced.
A fuse is one-time protection. After it blows, find out why, then fit a new fuse of the same type and rating — never a bigger one, and never a bridge of wire. A tiny trip MCB does the same job and simply resets with its handle. Neither protects against electric shock; that needs an RCCB in the distribution board.
Which fuse rating do I need
- 10A — lighting and fan circuits, TV and computer points and small appliances, typically on 1.5 sq mm cable.
- 16A — power sockets and appliances such as a geyser up to 3 kW, a washing machine or a microwave, typically on 2.5 sq mm cable.
The fuse must never be rated above what the cable of the point can carry — your electrician will match it to the circuit.
Where to use it
- A fused point for an appliance or socket on a modular switchboard.
- Replacing a damaged fuse module on an existing modular board.
- Homes, shops and offices that want a simple, economical fuse at the switchboard.
How to install
- Switch off the supply at the distribution board and confirm the point is dead.
- Connect the incoming phase to one terminal and the outgoing phase (to the load) to the other — phase conductor only, never the neutral.
- Fit a fuse of the rating the circuit needs in the carrier and push the carrier home.
- Clip the unit into a free module of the plate and fix the plate to the box.
Electrical work should be done by a licensed electrician with the supply switched off.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a modular fuse unit?
- A fuse holder made in the shape of a modular switch. It takes one module in a modular plate and fuses the point wired through it.
- Fuse unit or tiny trip MCB — which should I buy?
- Both protect a point against overload and short circuit. The fuse unit is simpler and economical but must be refitted after it blows; a tiny trip MCB resets with its handle and doubles as an on/off switch.
- What should I do when the fuse blows?
- Switch off the supply, unplug the appliance and find out why it blew. Then fit a fuse of the same type and rating. Never use a bigger fuse, thicker wire or a bridge to stop it blowing.
- How many modules does it take?
- One module — the same width as a one-way switch.
- Does it protect against electric shock?
- No. A fuse acts on overload and short circuit only. Protection against shock needs an RCCB of 30 mA or less.
